5 Days Akagera Wildlife & Nyungwe Forest Primates Tour

This 5 day Rwanda Adventure takes you to Nyungwe forest, a home to 13 primates species that include chimpanzees, golden monkeys, blue monkeys, vervets, and large troops of black and white colobus monkeys beating up to 500 individuals. Also enjoy the adventurous canopy walking adventure in Nyungwe forest and cultural walk. Proceed to Akagera Wildlife Park, a home to giraffes, elephants, zebras, baboons, antelopes, hippos, crocodiles and over 400 bird species among other wildlife in Rwanda. Below is the proposed itinerary for this kind of expedition;

Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Akagera.
You will be picked drive eastward to Akagera national park, a scenic journey that will give you insight on Rwanda’s terrain. After lunch at Akagera lodge, and afternoon canoe drive at Lake Ihema will spice up your afternoon as you will see several water birds like the shoe bill, the heron, as well as a school of animals like hippos, crocodiles, buffalos, elephants, as they bust on the shores of the lake for shelter and water. Dinner and Overnight stay at Akagera Lodge.

Day 2: Game Drive and Nature walk.
In the morning, you will have an early game drive to catch up with early raisers before they return to their hideouts. Animals as the lion, leopard, hyena, bush bucks will be spotted. Later go for nature walk, and move at the top of Mutumba hills to have a beautiful view of the surrounding lakes as well as the neighboring Karagwe Mountains in Tanzania. Relax at the shores of the lake as you rest for the next day’s adventurous journey. Dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Travel to Nyungwe Forest National park.
After breakfast, you will start off the scenic journey to Nyungwe in the south. You will have a stopover visit to the king’s palace in Butare, visit the Butare museum, Murambi genocide memorial site and have lunch in Butare before proceeding to Nyungwe. Dinner and overnight at Gisakura guest house.

Day 4: Primate tracking and Canopy walk
In the morning, you will transfer to the park headquarters for registration before embarking on the adventurous track of the primates, most especially the interesting Chimpanzees. Other primates the black and white colobus monkeys and others will be seen. The forest is also rich in avifauna and flora, which will not be missed during the trek.
In the afternoon, time allowing, a canopy walk will give you a more exciting adventure. This 50m high and 90m long platform will give you an eye to eye level with the birds as well as other primates which inhabit the upper scale of the forest.
Dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Transfer to Kigali and departure.
In the morning, you will drive back to Kigali to catch up with your scheduled plane. Depending on flight time, a city tour will end your safari with more experience.
